White paper writing that is authoritative and persuasive
A white paper needs to be accurate and authoritative, but it also needs to persuade. I combine the expert tone your readers expect with a clear argument that carries them all the way to your conclusion.
Why it matters
White papers are read by people making considered decisions, often with real money at stake. They want evidence, expertise and a clear explanation of a problem and its solution. They don’t want a brochure dressed up as research.
The challenge is that the expertise usually sits with technical specialists, and the people reading may be new to the subject. A white paper has to be detailed enough to convince the experts and clear enough for everyone else, without drowning either in jargon.
That balance is what I do. I work with you and your specialists to understand the subject, then structure the paper so the argument builds logically, the key points stand out and the detail supports them rather than burying them.
A taste.
What it could sound like
The opening of an executive summary for an imaginary report on hospital energy use:
Executive summary opening
Hospitals use more energy at night than most offices use all day. This paper sets out where that energy goes, why most of the waste is invisible to the people who could prevent it, and three low-cost changes that have cut night-time use by a fifth in comparable buildings.

Your comments go in until you’re happy to put your name to every word.
So Nick helps ensure that “consult-speak” is at a minimum and that key points take precedence over the detail.
Questions about white papers
Anything else, just ask.
Can you write about a technical subject?
Yes. My strength is turning expert knowledge into clear writing, working closely with your specialists. If a subject genuinely needs a specialist writer, I’ll tell you and try to recommend one.
Do you edit reports written by our team?
Often. Many organisations have the expertise in-house and need it edited into clear, persuasive English that newcomers to the subject can follow.
Can you write in US English?
Yes, if your readers are American, the paper will read naturally to them.
Let’s start.
Tell me what you have in mind
A rough idea is plenty. Tell me about your business and what you’d like this writing to do, and I’ll come back with honest thoughts and a quote.
