Email newsletter copywriting that keeps clients thinking of you

Sending your clients and contacts a regular newsletter keeps you in their thoughts between jobs. I write newsletters that are engaging and thought-provoking, so when they think of you, they think of you the right way.

Why it matters

Your past clients and contacts are some of the most valuable people you know. They already trust you, they’re the most likely to buy again, and they’re the people who recommend you to others. A newsletter keeps that relationship warm.

The catch is that inboxes are crowded. A newsletter that’s nothing but offers and announcements gets deleted unread, and eventually unsubscribed from. One that gives readers something interesting, useful or entertaining gets opened, read and remembered.

I write newsletters that people look forward to. That means a subject line that earns the open, a mix of insight and news, and a tone that feels like a note from you rather than a mailshot from a department.

A taste.

What it could sound like

The start of a newsletter for an imaginary independent bookshop:

Subject line and opening

Subject: The book we can’t keep on the shelves. Every autumn there’s one title we reorder every week, and it’s never the one we expected. This year it’s a quiet novel about a lighthouse keeper. Here’s why everyone who buys it comes back for a second copy.

How it works

  1. We talk

About your business, your customers and what this piece of writing needs to achieve.

  2. I research

Your sector, your competitors and what your readers are looking for.

  3. I write

A first draft in your voice, put through Blatchley’s Law before you see it.

  4. We refine

Your comments go in until you’re happy to put your name to every word.

In December you commenced writing monthly Newsletters for me, and in all to date you have written nine.

Questions about newsletters

Anything else, just ask.

How often should I send a newsletter?

Often enough to stay in mind, not so often that it becomes a chore to read. Monthly suits most small businesses. The Gold and Platinum packages include one newsletter a month.

Can you set it up in Mailchimp for me?

Writing the content is the copywriting part, but setting up and sending the newsletter can be arranged as a separate job.

What’s the difference between a newsletter and a mailshot?

A newsletter keeps an existing relationship going with regular, interesting content. A mailshot is a one-off or a short campaign designed to get a specific response, often from new people.

Let’s start.

Tell me what you have in mind

A rough idea is plenty. Tell me about your business and what you’d like this writing to do, and I’ll come back with honest thoughts and a quote.

Tell me what you need written

A few details now saves us both a lot of back and forth later. I reply to every enquiry personally, usually within one working day.
