New Blog Post

This is my first blog of 2015, so I hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year. Mine was quiet but enjoyable: a lot of great conversation and Trivial Pursuit.

So for the first time I can say that I’ve been in business since last year, which makes me feel that I’ve moved on. So far, January hasn’t been as busy as the past couple of months, but that seems to be true for most of us. I have several jobs, though, from one of my regular clients, including a new regular blog to write. It’s a fairly bizarre subject, which I’m going to have to get used to, so it’ll give me the chance to learn something new.

Networking is getting going again, after the holiday break. I went to my first 4Networking event of the new year last week, at Ware, and in the coming week I’m going to the Enfield & Cheshunt 4Networking meeting and the Hertford Business Buzz.  It seems frightening that it’ll be the third Thursday of the month already, even if that is because New Year’s Day was a Thursday. And this week, too, will mark the return of the #HertsHour chat on Twitter, which I’m looking forward to.

I’m gradually learning and adjusting my methods as I learn. My monthly newsletters have so far been very much do-it-yourself affairs, both in design and mailing, but I’ve just signed up with MailChimp (I finally got “a round tuit”). Hopefully, the next newsletter I put out will be using one of their templates and a slicker distribution.

I’ve also concluded that being out of touch with emails while I’m out is too inconvenient, and I’m upgrading my phone to one belonging to this decade. My networking colleague Tony Field of M-Viron has sorted out the best deal for me, and I’m looking forward to getting no peace whatsoever.

So what can I expect from 2015? Well, if 2014 is anything to go by, what happens won’t be anything I do expect. The opportunities will probably come from random encounters (which means taking every networking opportunity I reasonably can) and at least some of the jobs will be on topics I never even knew existed. That doesn’t matter: it helps to keep it fun.

And I hope 2015 brings success to you, wherever you want your business to go.
